Stampin Friends May 2024 Blog Hop - Celebrating Men

 

At first, I couldn’t wait for the nice warm weather to arrive, but now I am regretting that decision.  Warmer weather means we are just about halfway through the year, YIKES!  But also, here in the states we get to celebrate Dads with Father’s Day right around the corner.  For this month’s blog hop we are Celebrating Men!  Now this would have been a perfect time to showcase a Father’s Day card, but instead I decided to showcase a 100 Birthday!  I work for Council on Aging, in the Adult Center and one of the residents just turned 100!!!  Can you believe it??? I can’t and his wife is still right by his side, she still has a few years to go to hit the milestone.  It’s amazing to me how they are still plugging along and doing phenomenal!  This card is to celebrate Sonny’s 100 birthday! 

MATERIALS NEEDED

Stamp Set: Take to the Sky Suite Collection

Paper:

Basic White CS: 5 ½” x 8 ½”, scored at 4 ¼”

Night of Navy CS: 3 ¼” x 4 ½”

Basic White CS: scraps

Designer Series Paper (DSP): 2 3/8” x 4”

Ink: Basic Gray; Versa Mark

Tools/Accessories: Basic Gray & Smoky Slate Pearls, white embossing powder

I really didn’t want to use this set because I have a feeling many of us will (well why not, it is so much fun!).  But I did because all my other masculine sets have retired.  Along with this suite, I thought it would be so cool to use a fairly old card technique called the Eclipse technique.  Below are some simple instructions to achieve this technique, trust me, it is easier than it looks!

 

INSTRUCTIONS

Step 1: Cut a piece of DSP that allows room for the word you want to spell. In my case it was the number 100. {TIP: The best words to use should only be four letters long.}  Lay the DSP on the platform of the die-cutting machine, placing the number dies on top. Push them close together (almost touching) and make sure they are straight and in line. Die cut, following machine instructions. In my case I had to do this twice to get the second “0”.

                      

Step 2: Carefully poke out the die cut letters. Make sure to keep any inside portions of letters/numbers, like the center of the “0”. Be careful not to rip the paper when taking it out of the dies.

Step 3: Add SNAIL adhesive to the back of the DSP paper where the letters/numbers were die cut out off, adding some little dots of adhesive in between the letters.

Step 4: Adhere onto a dark cardstock layer (if you’re not using a layer, you can adhere directly on the card base).

Step 5: Place the die cut letters/numbers in their corresponding space (DO NOT USE ADHESIVE) this is to make sure the pattern lines up. 

Step 6: Adhere the inside pieces of the “0” to the cardstock.

Step 7: Remove the letters/numbers and add dimensionals to the backs.  Now adhere the letters/numbers in the empty spaces.

Step 8: Finish off the card anyway you please.  I added a small plane and some accessories, as well as a sentiment stamped with versa mark and heat embossed with white embossing powder.

See easy peasy, I swear!  Now only can this technique be used for words, but this can be used with all kinds of images.  The possibilities are endless!

It’s monochromatic March and I always find monochromatic cards to be a challenge.  With a little help of Rock Star suite from Stampin’ Up! I think I nailed it. Paper: Basic Black CS: 4 ¼” x 11”, scored at 5 ½”
Smoky Slate CS: 3” x 4 ¼”
Basic White CS: 2 ¾” x 4”
Basic Gray CS: scraps
Rock & Roll 12”x12” DSP: ¾” x 2 ¾” and ¼” x 2 ¾”
Metallic Gold CS: scraps
Silver Metallic CS: scraps

Ink: VersaMark

Tools/Accessories: Rock Star Dies, black embossing powder

I’m constantly buying masculine supplies, but never seem to use them. So when this theme came about I knew for sure I would want to use the Rock Star Bundle. I dug it out my pile of new things that have never been touched and went to work.  I cased this layout from Loven Stamps.

 

INSTRUCTIONS

Step 1: Use the scoring board to score a 4 1/4” x 11” piece of cardstock along the long side at 5 1/2”. Fold in half to create the base.
Step 2: Adhere with double sided tape the two then strips to the left-hand side of the basic white card stock. Then adhere this piece to the center of the smoky slate cardstock.
Step 3: Die cut the large guitar pick out of basic gray cardstock, adhere this with dimensionals towards the right-hand side of the card base.
Step 4: Stamp the microphone image and sentiment out of VersaMark, sprinkle basic black embossing powder, then heat these both with the heat gun until the embossing powder sets. Adhere the microphone to the pic with dimensionals, along with the sentiment.

Step 5: Next die cut the lightning bolts and stars out of gold metallic cardstockUse these to embellish the card front.

We are getting sooo close to the warmer months up here in New England.  It feels like it is taking forever!  But looking at the forecast for this weekend, it may be a time for my husband to take out his motorcycle.  This is our preferred choice of means to travel in the warmer months. 

 

OK, all this talk about motorcycles brings me to this month’s blog theme, celebrating men. One of the best ways I know how, is by making greeting cards with a motorcycle theme.  For this project I CASE’d two “moving” technique that Frenchie Stamps demonstrated a little while ago.

MATERIALS NEEDED

Stamp Set: Legendary Ride

Paper: Basic Grey CS (5 ½” x 8 ¼”, scored at 4 ¼”) (card base)

Basic White CS (4 ¼” x 2 ¼”; scraps)

Basic Black (4 3/8” x 2 3/8”)

Metallic Silver Specialty Paper (2 ½” x 5 ¼”)

Ready to Ride DSP (2 ½” x 5 ¼”)-retired but just HAD to use it.

Ink:  Momento Black

Tools/Accessories: Metal Plate 3D; Classic Matte Dots

 

MOTION TECHNIQUE 1: SMACKDOWN TECHNIQUE

1. Ink the stamp in a color of your choosing.
2. Stamp the image firmly onto card stock.
3. Without reinking the stamp, move the stamp slightly and stamp again.
4. Move stamp again, and without reinking, stamp another image.
5. Continue until you run out of ink, or are pleased with the number of images. 

MOTION TECHNIQUE 2: STAMP DRAGGING

1. Ink the stamp in a color of your choosing.
2. Stamp the image at one edge of the card stock.
3. After you stamp down, do not lift the stamp, drag it in the direction you want to motion to be.
4. For the motorcycle because it is facing to the right. I stamped it at the right edge of the paper, I then dragged it towards the left.

Both of these techniques are fairly easy and can be used with most stamps!

 

INSTRUCTIONS

1. First, I like to get my stamping out of the way, so all I need to do is assemble the card in the end.  Stamp your image using one of the two techniques above. Adhere this to the Basic Black CS and set aside.
2. Stamp your sentiment in momento basic black ink and fussy cut around it.  Set this aside.
3. Fold in half the card base and adhere the 5 ½” x 2 ½” Ready to Ride DSP to the card base front towards the bottom.
4. Run the Silver Metallic Specialty Paper through the Stampin’ Cut and Emboss machine using the Metal Plate 3D.  Adhere these to the card base front towards the top.  It will overlap the DSP.
5. Adhere the motorcycle panel to the metallic portion of the card using dimensionals.
6. Then adhere the sentiment towards the bottom right-hand side of the card using mini deminsionals.
7. Lastly, embellish with classic matte dots.

Stampin Friends October 2022 Blog Hop - Thankful for You!

Welcome to Stampin Friends Blog Hop! This month is we are creating for being "Thankful for You". First, I am thankful for all of you and happy I can share my creativity with you all! I know I said in previous posts, but I am still trying to make more masculine cards and gifts.  So this month was no different!  Shouldn't we be "Thankful" for our men in our lives?  I also included one of my favorite things this month, pens.  If you know me, you know I LOVE pens and kind of collect them.  The one featured in the box I made was purchased this Summer in New Orleans!  Now onto my items!

 

I found this fun card idea somewhere on Pinterest, please forgive for not knowing who it was.  Since I found this, I have made sure to include in a class, for a birthday card and now this blog.

Products used: Brewed For You Bundle; Color & Contour; Very Vanilla Card Stock (CS); Basic White CS; Early Espresso, Slate  & Crushed Curry Ink; Twine; Rustic Metallic Adhesive Backed Dots; He's the Man Designer Series Paper (DSP).

      

 

 

 

The card is a normal A2 (4 1/4" x 5 1/2") size, however you cut 2 inches off the front flap.  Then you take a piece of 3" x 5 1/2" acetate to fill in where you cut away. Lastly, I added a border to the right edge of the acetate to finish off the "window".  Inside the card I stamped my sentiment, but heck you can stamp anything you want to see through the window.  Below is a card I created for one of my recent classes where we made Fall cards.It was a big hit!

 

 

Now for the really fun part!  We always seem to make cute packaging to hold sweets.  Well this time I thought I would something to hold a "fancy" pen.  Wouldn't you love to be gifted a nice pen?  I know I would.

The bottom of the box is made with He's the Man DSP and cover (which is hard to see in the picture) is made with a piece of acetate.  The finished box is 6" long, by 3/4" high and wide. I wanted a clear cover so the pen would be visible.  The measurement for the base is 9" x 3 3/4". At the 9" side, score at 3/4", 1 1/2", 7 1/2" and 8 1/4". On the 3 3/4" side, score at 3/4", 1 1/2", 2 1/3" and 3".  Then you will trim away the pieces as soon in the picture below.

 

 

I put the base together similar to the boxes Stampin' Up! often has up for sale or in their Paper Pumpkin kits.  Mine did need a little adhesive. I didn't think to add a picture as to how it went together so I may update this post to include it over the weekend.  

 

I'll admit, the acetate cover was not easy to put together, due to the fact you cannot see the score lines and it is super thick.  The cover's measurement is 7 1/2" by 2 1/5".  On the 7 1/2" side score at 13/16" on each end and 7/8" on each side of the 2 1/2".  I did not cut away any pieces for the cover. All you need to do is on the 2 1/2" side, cut on the score lines to the score line going the other way.

 

 

 

 

I ties some twine around the base so it really holds its shape and then the cover tucks nicely inside the box.

I also created an insert for the box the hold the pen.  This piece is 3/4" x 8 1/4". I made some score lines and then punched out a three quarter circle at the peaks of the scores to create a cradle for the pen.

On a side note, I am raising funds for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society!  In doing so, I will be part of their Team In Training Program and will be participating in the Disney World Marathon Weekend events. My fundraising goal is $8,000! Yes, that is the correct number and I need your help!

Stampin Friends July 2022 Blog Hop - Perfectly Punched!

 

 

Welcome to Stampin Friends Blog Hop! This month we are featuring cards and projects using punches. There are a ton of different types of punches available.  My favorite are generic shapes.  With these you can create a bunch of “punch art” which make them very versatile.  However, for this blog, I chose to use a punch that can be used to make shaker cards.

I’m on a roll with making “masculine” cards and gifts.  Thank goodness, because they are always the hardest ones for me.  I dug out the He’s The Man suite again.  I just love how it has everything you need to make cards and projects.

In case you didn’t notice right away, I did use the vintage bottle shaker domes, however, instead of putting “shaker” material in the dome…I actually used real BBQ sauce!  How cool is that!!  I think this would be a fun card to give along with a gift card for your local BBQ restaurant.  So, let’s get started with how my card came together.  A quick tip: fill and seal your shaker dome before adhering it to your project.

CARD STOCK SIZES

Card stock for the base is very vanilla, scored at 5 1/2”.
DSP layer: 2 1/2" x 5 1/4", 1 1/2” x 5 1/2” and 1/2” x 5 1/4”.
Early Espresso, basic white and very vanilla card stock: scraps.

 

This was a very easy card to put together. 

1. After I filled the bottle dome covered the back with a piece of acetate.  I punched a bottle image in the thinner DSP and adhered the shaker dome to it.  I think added the three pieces of DSP to the card base with adhesive.  
2. I then die cut out two of the diamond designs in early espresso card stock. I adhered this the center of the card towards the top.
3. Lastly I added the sentiment with dimensional and embellished it with rustic metallic dots.
4. I also made a label for the bottle of “BBQ” sauce and added a cork, so the sauce wouldn’t ooze out, lol.

To go along with the card, I created this really neat small box that will perfectly fit a “nip”.  If you do not know what a “nip” is, it is a small bottle liquor, more of a sampler.  I found out not too long ago, not only are these not sold in all states here in the US, but also, not everyone calls them “nips”.  Who would have thunk it!  I also like this box because it has a flap that can be tucked in or left out.  For my box I left the flap out and used a piece of velcro as a fastener.  I know most guys won’t take the time to untie ribbon, so I figured the velcro would easier for them.

7 3/8” x 6 3/4” basic black card stock
4, 1 1/4” x 4 1/8 and 2, 1 1/4” x 1 1/4” (optional) DSP
1 3/8” x 3” accettate.
Score the 7 3/8” x 6 3/4” as follows:
    7 3/8” at 1 1/2” and 5 7/8”
    6 3/4” at 1 1/2”, 3, 4 1/2” and 6

 

1. Snip and trim as shown in the diagram.  Before you put the box together, punch the bottle image so you can add the shaker bottle.  For this bottle, I also used real BBQ sauce. I also added my DSP pieces to the box.
2. Using tear tape, I folded the three end flaps to create my box.
3. Lastly, using the laser cut pieces from He’s the Man 12” x 12” DSP embellish the top of the box and flap if you like.

Stampin Friends May 2022 Blog Hop - Celebrating Men!

I know most of us have a hard to buying for the men in our lives, so we tend to give giftcards.  My project this month makes giftcard giving much more fun!

I am using the product suite "He's the Man" from Stampin' Up!  Once again they have out done their self.  The suite includes everything you need to make masculine cards and 3D projects.  Here are mine!

Greeting Card:

SUPPLIES: Early Espresso Card Stock; Crushed Curry Card Stock; He's the Man 12"x12" Specialty Designer Series Paper (DSP); Rustic Metallic Adhesive Dots

INSTRUCTIONS: Like I said Stampin' Up! really out did themselves and this time they did it by having one of their printed DSP sheets already laser cut.  There are a ton of pieces that can be used to quickly put a greeting card or scrapbook page together.

• Card Base = 8 1/2" x 5 1/2" early espresso card stock
• First Layer = 4" x 5 1/4" crushed curry card stock
• Second Layer = 3 3/4" x 4 3/4" camper print DSP checked print visible; 2 pieces of 1 1/2" x 3 3/4" camper print DSP with camper print visible.
• Lastly I did die cut the crushed curry "banner" to add to the cluster in the center of my card.  The circle piece and arrow is one of the laser cut pieces that comes in the DSP.  And yes I blinged a masculine card with rustic metalic adhesive dots.

Smores Themed Gift Card Holder:

SUPPLIES: Soft Succulent Card Stock; He's the Man 12"x12" Specialty Designer Series Paper (DSP); Cajun Crase Card Stock; Rustic Metallic Adhesive Dots, Twine

SIDE NOTE: Please ignore the "seasonal" marshmallow peeps (lol).  

 

I thought I would disguise a gift card for my 3D project.  I think getting a gift card in your greeting card or one of the provided envelopes is soooo boring!  So here is an alternative way which can be replicated for anyone in your life. It's a mini smores kit that includes the gift card in the reusable waterproof case!  Just an FYI, you can buy the water proof case at most out doors shops.

 

INSTRUCTIONS: 

• For the case I removed the insert and used it as a template which I traced onto a piece of DSP. The piece of DSP used is approximately 6" x 4".  I then scored in the same spots as the "template" so it would slide into the case as the original insert.

                    

• For part of the "smores" kit, yes I used a snowman peep for the marshmallow and scooby snacks for the graham crackers (these are my favorite)!  I placed them in a cello bag and tied the top with some twine.  I then used one of the pieces from the laser cut sheet in the "He's the Man" DSP to decorate the cello bag.  
  

           

• If you have the mini Hersey bars you could add them to this kit.  I only had the large bars on hand so I made a pouch to hold it. You could "hide" the giftcard in this pouch also. 
• To make the pouch I used a piece of 5 2/2" x 6" DSP.  It is scored at 1 5/8" on either side when holding the piece of DSP landscape.  Then scored at 1/2" on one side when holding the piece of DSP portrait. Then I trimmed as shown in the image.
• Then you just place adhesive on the tab and on the flap to close up the pouch.  You can punch a circle or die cut a shape at the top of the pouch to expose more of the chocolate bar.
• Once again I used some of the pieces from the laser cut sheet of DSP, I die cut the banner out of soft succulent card stock and stamped the "compas" image in early espresso on the cajun craze DSP.  I then added this to the pouch with some twine.
